Ingredients

  • 3/4 pound small red-skinned potatoes
  • 6 cloves garlic—3 thinly sliced, 2 crushed and
  • 1 finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper
  • 6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon grainy mustard
  • 1/4 whole wheat country loaf, cut into 1/2-inch cubes (about 3 cups)
  • 1 pound skirt steak, cut crosswise into 2 or 3 pieces, at room temperature
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
