Ingredients

  • Beef strips
  • 20.00 including post and package, telephone
  • Here is the recipe for Shawarma and Shanklish a.k.a spiced beef strips with aged yogurt cheese.
  • Serves 6
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 3 cardamom pods
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt flakes
  • 1 teaspoon ground pimento
  • 1 kg beef rump or round steak, trimmed of fat and cut into thin strips
  • 125 ml white wine vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 brown onions, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • 1 red pepper, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • 180 ml olive oil
  • 3 pieces of Middle Eastern bread
  • 1 x 200g ball of mild shanklish
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • small handful of mint.
