Banana Podimas (Raw Plantain Bhartha)

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp chana dal
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch asafoetida (hing)
  • 2 to 3 raw banana plantain, steamed
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • 1/4 cup grated coconut
  • Coriander leaves
  • Curry leaves -few
  • 1 tsp each of chopped ginger and green chillies
  • Pinch of turmeric powder


    1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once it crackles, add chana dal, urad dal, curry leaves, green chillies, ginger and sauté for few seconds, till dals are cooked.

    2. Add raw banana , turmeric, hing, salt and cook on medium flame for a minute or two.

    3. Add lime juice and coconut, mix well and serve.
