I am a cream lover, and would have no issues topping copious amounts of creamand butter into my potatoes, but using creamcheese allows for a refreshing taste without feeling gross afterwards
Some people also add sourcream, but I have found it makes the potatoes too runny. Add Butter, CreamCheese, SourCream, Goat Cheese, Roasted Garlic, salt and pepper to taste

You can make it a day or two in advance too and just keep it in the fridge after (this stuff is fantastic spread on a crisp baguette then topped with goat cheeseand fresh tomatoes, or in a caeser salad, so make extra)
