  • 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal soaked in water
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, roughly crushed
  • 1 tablespoon coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped/grated ginger
  • 2 dry red chilies, chopped
  • 1 green chili, roughly chopped
  • 2 sprigs Curry leaves
  • Water
  • Oil for deep frying
