the volume you started with. Make sure you give the motor of the blender some rest in between. The consistency of the ground urad dal should be fluffy and light ,not runny.
I finally made puto (steamed cake) and I nailed it. With the ideas I got from several food groups on facebook that I've joined with, I was able to come up with this simple puto cake (steamed cake recipe)
But since I wanted sometime fusion rather than the traditional Steamed Prosperity Cakes (Fa Gao - 发糕), I decided to use a sponge cake recipe and give it a twit by adding instant coffee powder and brown sugar to achieve a similar colour like Fa Gao
just give me a 'cheese'(small crack on the suface of the cake), not a big one, please. A simple Steamed Rice Cake without yeast, 'Eno'(fruit salt) or rice fermentation(tapai)
Not only popular as an item for merienda but also as accompaniment to other savory Filipino dishes such as dinuguan (pork blood stew) and stir-fry noodles, Puto or Filipino Steamed Cakes would surely snatch the limelight

Being hailed from Sarawak, I have a chance to taste many Malay steamed cakes that are sinfully rich. If you have a chance to taste these cakes, you will definitely opt for it if there is a choice between baked and steamed cakes
If you can make dhoklas and idlis, you can steam this cake too. ( adapted from JOC with changes ). I never imagined steamed cakes can be delicious, moist and perfect
you can bake a cake in your idli steamer or appachembu (steamer), how cool is that. Amma used to make cakes in the appachembu (traditional Kerala steamer) and when I asked her how she used to do
Pichi-Pichi (pronounced pee-chee pee-chee) is one of the delicious cakes enjoyed by many Filipinos during special occasions such as Noche Buena, but is not limited to just festive celebrations
I was not a fan of steamed kueh lapis (coconut layered cake) when young. Peeling off the cake layer by layer has always been the fun of eating this cake, provided you really have the time (^_^)vFor a healthier option, the recipe I followed, used coconut milk instead of coconut cream, and added less sugar, which made this recipe "leaner" in taste
The fortunate thing for me is that I live at home so at the end of a long day, a most beloved and comforting sight is there to greet me (my mother) along with warm, comfort food which she has already cooked
