Ingredients

  • Makes about 16 donuts
  • 6 Tb lukewarm water
  • 5 oz buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 egg, beaten, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup (4 Tb) butter, melted
  • 3-4 cups (1 lb) all-purpose or bread flour
  • 1/4 cup (2 oz) sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 tsp quick-rise or bread machine yeast
  • oil for frying (I used sunflower oil based on the original recipe's recommendation and loved it! )
  • sugar, powdered sugar, or cinnamon sugar for coating the doughnuts
