flavor than char siu. I made this char siu sauce in a similar way to how that old Hunan BBQ recipe was made. I will be posting a few more versions of char siu sauce in upcoming recipes. Heat a sauce pot over low heat. Add 1/2 cup of water. Add 1/4 cup of Shaoxing rice wine. Add 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce. Add 1 tablespoon of honey. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of thin soy sauce. Add 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil. Add 2 pinches of Chinese red chile powder. Add 1 teaspoon of ginger paste. Add 2 pinches of garlic powder. Add 1 pinch of coriander. Add 1 pinch of Chinese 5 spice powder. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar. Add 1/2 tablespoon of brown sugar. Add 2 to 4 drops of organic red food color, while stirring. (Only add enough food color to give the char siu sauce a classic Chinese red BBQ sauce color!) Gently simmer the sauce, till it becomes a thin BBQ glaze sauce consistency.

to 2 ounces apiece.) Roast the sweet longaniza in a 350 degree oven, till they become fully cooked and light brown highlights appear. Keep the sausages warm on a stove top. The Chinese asado tocino can be made while the sausages are roasting!
Cut 2 slices of cured smoked bacon into large bite size pieces. (Thick sliced bacon is best for this recipe, if it is available.) Heat a saute pan over medium heat. Add the bacon pieces. Saute till brown highlights start to appear. Remove the pan from the heat. Drain any excess grease out of the pan. Add enough of the char siu sauce to generously coat the bacon in the pan. Place the pan in a 350 degree oven. Bake till the bacon becomes glazed and caramelized highlights appear. Keep the Chinese asado tocino warm on a stove top.

Use a mold to place the portion of plain jasmine rice on a plate. Place the egg next to the rice. Place the roasted sweet longaniza sausages in a shallow casserole dish. Place the Chinese asado tocino on top of the sausages. Sprinkle a little bit of bias sliced green onion top over the tocino and sausages. Place the casserole dish on the plate.
