I have used kodo millet but you can also use barnyard millet, littlemillet or foxtail millet. In a heavy pan add the grated jaggery and add little water
Come Tamil Month Aadi(july-august), the festival season begins, starting with Varlakshmi nombhu it goes on till Kaarthikai in the month of November-December
I love sweetpongal - also called sakkaraipongal or chakkari pongal. I had made pongal last year during sankranti and it was a little seet for my liking - I guess the jaggery used was a bit too much
Grind littlemillet, idli rava together. These days I love to try new recipes with millets. In the past whenever I visit India I do pack some millet varieties
Here I used littlemillets also called Samai in Tamil to prepare quick adais. It is not so difficult, very time saving al most all millets require very little soaking time if planning to use them in dosa or idli prepation
I always wanted to try Chakkarai/SweetPongal as I love it as a prasadam. It is cooked rice/moong dal mix in milk and then sweetened with Jaggery and loaded with ghee
