  • 6 slices bacon (not too thin), chopped
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 jalapeno chiles, chopped (seeded, if large)
  • 2 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, chopped
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp cider vinegar
  • 2 tsp chile powder
  • sea salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
