  • fresh ground black pepper
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans plum tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaf, plus additional chopped basil for garnish
  • 1/2 lb bacon, diced
  • 10 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
  • 3 red onions, sliced
  • 2 1/2 cups dry white wine
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup sherry wine vinegar
  • 4 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
