Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • vanilla
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar whisked with 2 Tbsp vanilla soy milk (or milk + 1/4 tsp vanilla extract)
