  • 13 Comments · In Fall, Fall Food The simplicity of this pastry is hard to believe when you consider how gorgeous the pastry turns out! This one screams MADE IN A PROFESSIONAL BAKERY!!! Ok, seriously…anyone who saw it had the same reaction…WOW. Because I made the dough yesterday, this went together so quickly I actually had time to sit and enjoy the nice cup of tea my 10-year-old made for me. I got off easy tonight in general though. Dinner this evening was as easy as it gets so I had very little prep work waiting for me…I made steaks,Au gratin potatoes and a nice salad. Easy peasy.

  • 10 year old….sweeping the floor and having the little pile stay where I left it instead of having the kids run through it causing me to re-sweep…..polishing the furniture and having it somehow remain free of tiny fingerprints for more than 20 minutes…..Not hearing MOM!!!! We need juice please!!!!!!….while I’m on the phone…. OHHHHH…..And I will be able to shoot video here on the tiny farm without the little one screaming Mommy, I have to go potty in the background…..Yes, I think I will manage to be just fine. . Let’s bake shall we?

  • 1 full recipe of Homemade Sour Cream Pastry Dough (you can find that recipe here)
  • 6 large apples (I used a combination of granny smiths and pink lady apples) Peeled and sliced
  • 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup of sugar (organic if possible)
  • sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon of pure vanilla extract
  • extract
  • 1 Tablespoon of brandy
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1/4 of sliced almonds (if you are not into nuts…leave them out)
  • 1/8 cup additional sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cold butter (cut into small pieces)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • egg wash
  • milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mix into a thick glaze for drizzling over the baked and cooled pastry
  • 425 degrees In a large bowl combine all the ingredients for the filling except the almonds,
  • 1/8 cup of sugar, egg wash and sanding sugar and butter
  • 1/8-1/4 inch thick
  • 350 degrees
