I am normally using my homemade beef bone broth for this kind of recipes, but if I happen to be out of it, don’t have time to make it or only need a smaller amount like in the case of this stew, than I like to use Kettle & Fire‘s organic beef bone broth
Jelbana is made with green peas, artichokes, potatoes, any kind of meat you prefer (veal, lamb, beef, chicken) and of course my beloved flavorful Tunisian spices
Along with this, the next day, a different friend of mine who found out that I like to cook, gave me a bottle of olive oil brought home from her small olive grove in the south of France
Here in the Bahamas we reverse the name and call it “Stew Beef. ” You will never catch us saying “Beef Stew” unless, of course, we’re trying to impress visitors, lol
Add enough water so the beef & veggies are almost fully covered - see photo in post. And Beef and Guinness Stew might be the king of them all because the gravy sauce has extra incredible flavour from the Guinness Beer
Add a little water to the cornflour and pour into stew, stir until mixture thickens. Also taste test it, as if not using bisto you may want to add a little more beef stock powder to mixture

Season Beef liberally with Salt & Pepper and toss in Flour. ~ If you can buy beets with the greens intact when shopping for this recipe, rinse the whole leaves, remove the tough stems, and roll up the whole bunch to chiffonade, making ½” cuts
In a large stew pot (I use my enamel caste iron pot), melt the butter and add olive oil. My kids loved the meat in this stew, so it was perfect for the whole family

Combine beef, celery, carrots, red onion, potatoes, salt, pepper, garlic, parsley, oregano, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, and tomato paste in the crock pot
