Okra is known as Vendakkai in Tamil and Bhindi in Hindi. Lady’s finger Recipe is cooked quickly and also tastes very delicious, Lady’s finger also known as okra or Gumbo is very common in Indian cooking
Add in chopped ladyfingers. Mustard Seeds / Kaduku - 1 tsp. Urad dal / Ulundu Paruppu - 1 tsp. Ladyfinger - 10 to 15 chopped. Sugar / Jaggery - 1 tsp. Coriander Seeds / Malli - 2 tblspn. Coconut - 1/2 cup. Add in ladysfinger and saute for 7 to 10 mins till it gets golden. 1/2 cup
Generally during festivals we prepare a no onion sambar or paruppu kuzhambu and this Vendakkai Sambar (Ladiesfingersambar/Okra sambar) fit in those days
Okra or ladiesfinger curry can be made in several different ways. Lots of people get put off by cooking okra as it is quite a sticky vegetable when you cut it
Chettinad Vendakkai Varuval. Now add the chopped ladiesfingers and stir well, sprinkle few tbsp water to the ladiesfinger, mix well, cover pan with lid and cook on low heat until ladiesfinger is tender
Again a simple side dish for a lunch………this is very simple and tasty……some doesn’t like lady’s finger much because of its sticky nature……but this dish all will like
Turmeric powder / Manjal podi -. Till the okra is cooked and there is no slimyness. I can easily eat beetroot thoran, but the one thing i hated is this ladysfinger thoran
Chop the ladiesfinger. Saute the ladiesfinger with a little salt. LadiesFinger - 10. Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup. Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon. Coriander powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons. Jeera powder - 1/2 teaspoon. Water - 1/3 cup or less. Dissolve the tamarind pulp in 1/4 cup water and keep aside. When 1/2 done, pour the ground paste and the remaining tamarind pulp and water. Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup Green chillies - 2. 2 teaspoons Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon Coriander powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons Jeera powder - 1/2 teaspoon Tamarind pulp - 1 tablespoon Water - 1/3 cup or less
