Some of her bestsellers were the savory lumpia (fried spring rolls) accompanied with spicy vinegar dip, and sweet treats like turon (crispy banana rolls), banana-que (sugar-coated saba banana), maruya (banana fritters), kamote-que (sugar-coated sweet potatoes), karioka (sugar-glazed coconut balls), maja blanca (coconut pudding) and the ever timeless Palitaw (Sticky Rice Dumplings), which would never be complete without sago’t gulaman samalamig (pearl and jelly coolers) on the side
We also have buko (coconut juice) and melon (seasonal). Try this Sago’t Gulaman drink. This post is actually a bit overdue because I made this sago’t gulaman the same time I made Taho
Combine cubed gulaman, young coconut, sago pearls and nata de coco in a large bowl. Place pot in stove top and bring it to a boil, once boiling lower heat to medium and add sugar, continuously stir until the gulaman and sugar melts
Ingredients include boiled kidney beans, garbanzos, sugar palm fruit (kaong), coconut sport (macapuno), and plantains sweetened with sugar, jackfruit (langkâ), gulaman, tapioca, nata de coco, sweet potato (kamote), cheese, pounded crushed young rice (pinipig)
When gulaman sets, cut into cubes. Then, combine with coconut, cream and milk. ¼ cup condensed milk. 1 box pandan gelatin1 pack all-purpose cream1½ tsp sugar1 cup shredded coconut¼ cup condensed milkInstructions. 1 cup shredded coconut
I barely had room for dessert but I went ahead and had pandan gulaman (jello), pichi pichi (cassava cake sprinkled with grated coconut) and some leche flan (milk flan)
Traditionally, halo-halo is served with leche flan (creme caramel), boiled kidney beans, sweet potatoes, nata de coco, tapioca, macapuno, langka, and gulaman all mixed together (hence the name)
In large bowl add gulaman squares, palm fruit, nata-de-coco, buko or young coconut. Gulaman green jelly powder mix cooked as per cooking directions, (add pandan leaf while cooking the gulaman) before it goes into a boil cut off the heat and transfer to a container
Cut the set jelly into 1/2 inch squares, add the coconut meat, cream, condensed milk, and tapioca. 1 pack powdered green jelly (gulaman). 1/2 cup condensed milk
Add the Gulaman and stir more. In a large pitcher, combine coconut juice and condensed milk. Serve 2 young coconuts. 2 tbsp Condensed milk. 1/4 cup Gulaman (Jello) pandan flavor. 2 cups Coconut juice
Cook each gulaman bar separately by boiling in this mixture. Stir until gulaman is dissolved. Arrange alternate layers of gulaman, pinipig and Fruit Cocktail in individual serving cups
