Grandma’s children always requested her sweet potato casserolewith brown sugar topping, but her grandchildren always clamored for the candied yamswithmarshmallows
There’s just something about Thanksgiving that makes those little processed sugar filled pillows the perfect crunchy/creamy topping to the canned “yams”
If you feel, like I do, that yams and sweet potatoes are sweet enough on their own without adding the double kill of marshmallows and sugar, there’s a great way to balance the sweetness with other flavors
Top with marshmellows. Drain yams. Sprinkle on top of yams. Place in ungreased 2 quart casserole dish. 40 ounces large can yams. 5 (10 ounce) bag miniature marshmallows
Eggplant Casserole (Yummy Chunklet). Top withmarshmallows. Dot yams and pineapple with marmalade. Artichokes Steamed and Dressed with Mayonnaise (Mae’s Food Blog)
As for the difference between sweet potatoes and yams. Add cornflakes and mini marshmallows, mixing well to coat everything with the butter/sugar mixture
This sweet potato casserole is always a hit at our Thanksgiving feast and I love making something a little different from the normal candied yams or other sweet potato casseroles
